When I was a kid, I always thought of December to be the most magical month of the year. To the 8-year-old me, it meant festive lights, memories made with family, and giving to others. My family always decorated the Christmas tree together, on the second Sunday before Christmas Day. This was pretty much my scope of holiday decorating at that age. My parents never decorated the exterior of our house (despite my protests), and when my sister and I slept, my mother stayed up all night decorating the interior. As I got older, I found myself getting less into the holiday spirit. Adult me realized that it was a lot of work. Working retail full-time and tackling a full course load in college left little time for running errands and doing adult things. The first and last time I decorated for the winter holidays was my first year in my own apartment.
